Our fab Great Charity Book Giveaway is back for the 7th year!!
It is one of the most important fundraisers of the year and enables us to support our Sunshine & Smiles superstars in a wide range of activities such as Speech & Language therapy, dance, swimming, football, and much more! It also contributes towards our vital support for over 130 families in Leeds.
How does it work?
Simple – make a donation on entry and take away as many book as your arms can carry.
We have thousands of books to giveaway and homemade cakes, coffee and other refreshments will be available throughout the day, served by our 21 Co. team!
Can you donate your books?
Yes! We would love for you to bring any books you no longer need 🙂
How can I help?
If you could offer any help on the day such setting up or tidying away please let us know, and donations of cakes or biscuits are always very gratefully received!
We are very pleased to be able to offer our families 3 workshops around Positive Behaviour Support. This will be our final workshop.
The sessions will be run by Cherie Andrews, Mum to Luke, who attends Sunshine & Smiles. Cherie also has 23 years experience and knowledge in a professional capacity as a registered learning disability nurse and health visitor. She worked in the Learning Disability Nursing team for 7 years and in Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) for 3 years.
Her keen interest and experience in these roles was positive behaviour support where she developed, set up & ran a course for families as well as helping to develop a positive behaviour pathway within CAMHS.
Cherie has extensive experience supporting parents & carers in group sessions and on an individual basis.
The sessions will be a course of workshops and will be three, two hour sessions run on a Sunday afternoon between 1pm – 3pm on 16th June, 23rd June & 7th July. If you are reading this article after the 23rd June and have not attended the first two sessions you will not be able to book on, as this is a 3-week workshop.
The aims of the sessions will be to:
Look at understanding triggers for different behaviours
Look at positive strategies to distract or minimise different behaviours
Explore coping mechanisms & strategies for families
Developing positive behaviour support ideas & plans
Although Cherie will be facilitating the sessions and bringing her experience, skills & knowledge we hope that this will be an opportunity to families to share and explore any specific issues in a safe & supportive environment
We can offer space for 8 – 10 families on these first 3 sessions. (a family can be up to 2 adults who have a caring responsibility for a child; e.g parent or carer, extended family member or personal assistant). We will hope to have a number of volunteers on hand to offer support & activities for children in a separate room if childcare is an issue).
If you would like to book a place on these sessions please email: firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com with the names of the adult or adults who will be attending and any children (with their ages) who will be coming so we can ensure we have sufficient staff & volunteers in attendance for a creche service.
Would you like to run the Leeds 10K for Sunshine & Smiles?
It’s taking place on 7 July and we have places for any of our supporters! It’s always a lovely day in the city, and we’ve been lucky that the last few years have had amazing weather (maybe a bit too sunny for our runners).
Please help us to raise much needed work to sustain all of the groups & activities that we currently run and to help us meet the ongoing demand for Speech & Language sessions and develop other areas of support.
You can set up your own, or a team fundraising page via our Local Giving site here: https://localgiving.org/charity/sunshineandsmiles/
If you would like to run on behalf of Sunshine & Smiles, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org – we would love to run with you!
