Are you looking for a personal challenge, to do something that makes a difference or just a bit of motivation to get out more?
Why not sign up for The Leeds Half Marathon on 12 May 2019!
The race is organised by Run for All and they say:
“The Leeds Half Marathon brings excitement, colour, crowds and a great atmosphere to the heart of the city. A mass warm up ensures that everyone is raring to go and the race gets underway at 9.30am on The Headrow next to Victoria Gardens.
Cheering crowds line the route as runners head to the finish in Cookridge Street alongside the showpiece Millennium Square, which is a perfect venue for our event hub. Passing through the finish area you’ll collect water and an energy drink to replenish and rehydrate, and your finisher’s goody bag to showcase your achievement.”
You can set up your own, or a team fundraising page via our Local Giving site here: https://localgiving.org/charity/sunshineandsmiles/
If you would like to run on behalf of Sunshine & Smiles, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org – we would love to run with you!
Thank you to our Service Manager, Ailith Harley-Roberts who ran the Leeds Abbey Dash on Sunday along with 23 runners from Walker Morris to raise funds for Sunshine and Smiles.
It makes a huge difference when volunteers take on challenges to raise funds for us, and we are incredibly thankful to all our runners.
It’s not too late to support Ailith by donating to her Local Giving page. This year Ailith has pledged to run, cycle & swim 2130 miles for Sunshine & Smiles aiming to raise funds to buy equipment for Sunshine & Smiles! She also posted on Facebook earlier this week that for her Birthday (16 November) this year, she would rather her friends and family donated to Sunshine and Smiles rather than buying her gifts. What a lovely gesture.
Thanks again to all our runners, you all did amazingly! 🙂
Our Service Manager, Ailith Harley-Roberts will be running the Leeds Abbey Dash this November to raise funds for Sunshine and Smiles. She will be joining 23 runners from Walker Morris who have chosen Sunshine & Smiles as their charity of the year!
The Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash will be taking place on 4th November and you can support Ailith & the Walker Morris team by cheering them on along the way! The runners will be starting in Leeds City Centre and making their way along Kirkstall Road to Kirkstall Abbey before returning to finish outside the Town Hall.
Alternatively you can support Ailith by donating to her Local Giving page. This year Ailith has pledged to run, cycle & swim 2130 miles for Sunshine & Smiles aiming to raise funds to buy equipment such as a full size changing bed for Sunshine & Smiles!
Good luck Ailith from all of us at Sunshine and Smiles! 🙂
Each month we are extremely grateful to the huge number of people who fundraise for us or who make donations. As ever this month is no different and we want to say a huge thank you to:
International Personal Finance who raised £920.00 at their Leeds Away Day!
Sue Jowett who has raised £120.00 by having our collection tin the filling station where she works!
The National Federation of Fish Friers who donated £51.90 at the request of an outgoing member, Mr Cunningham, in lieu of the remainder of his membership fee.
Primley Park Children’s Nursery at Alwoodley who held a fabulous garden party to raise funds for us and a fabulous day for everyone who attended too… fundraising total to be confirmed!
The Darling Roses Women’s Institute group who invited to us speak at their recent meeting but who also held a little book sale on the day and then donated lots of fabulous books for our Book Giveaway next year .. we received a lovely £19.49.
Finally, to Skye, Aiyana, Ellis and Isla who did an impromptu table top sale and raised us £2.45!
We are very fortunate to have such wonderful people around us who continue to donate and support Sunshine and Smiles … thank you!!
We are very excited to let everyone know that at 10am on Tuesday 13th October this year’s Local Giving ‘Grow Your Tenner’ campaign will start!
For every individual donation up to £10.00 Local Giving will double your donation and if you set up a monthly Direct Debit for up to £10.00 that regular donation will also be doubled for the first 3 months!
So please spread the word … for every £10.00 donated with gift aid we will typically receive £21.67!
And there are two really good reasons to donate in October as we have Mark Howlett running Bradford Half Marathon and Jack Primose will be running York Marathon.
Amazing challenges to raise ongoing funding for our wonderful charity to be able to keep on delivering the sessions we do and look to develop new work in the long term!
A couple of little things to be aware of – if you want to donate more than £10.00 to make full use of the match funding please make individual donations of £10.00 at a time e.g. if you want to donate £30 please make 3 individual donations of £10.00. If you donate £30.00 in one donation only the first £10.00 of the £30.00 will be doubled. And each individual donor is only able to make 5 x £10 donations as part of the scheme.
Lastly .. please don’t donate now!! The scheme starts on 13th October at 10am .. we’re just letting you know .. but will send out a little reminder nearer the time too!
Every month it is overwhelming, and very humbling, to look at the number of people who have supported us by taking on a fundraising challenge, organising fundraising events or making very kind donations to us … and this month is no different … we owe huge thanks to the following people and organisations:
The team from International Personal Finance who took on the 3 Yorkshire Peaks Challenge on 20th June … it was a grey, misty and miserable day but that didn’t dampen their spirit and they came in between sub 10 hours and just over … a fantastic effort and to date have raised over £1500!!
Jojo Li who ran Leeds Half Marathon and donated £80 to us … thank you so much and we’re sorry we didn’t see you on the route to cheer!!
Marc Butterworth and his employers Legal & General who match funded Marc’s fundraising for us by an additional £500.00.
James Balkwill and his employers Lloyds Banking Group who match funded James’s fundraising for us by an additional £500.00.
Mo Burn and everyone at Taylor’s of Harrogate who put on a splendid bingo night, with food, an amazing raffle… and we were made so welcome … and they have raised over £1700!!
Marc Davies and everyone at WYG group Leeds office … they held a dress down day and a raffle and raised £300 … thank you!!
Vicky Blackman and her employers Liverpool Victoria who have pledged £1000 donation to Sunshine and Smiles … thank you for nominating us Vicky!
Sue who works at the BP garage in Headingley who does wonders getting her customers to donate to our collection tin … we received £175.00 last month and a further £65 this month!!
And as always thank you to all those people who give their time, who donate at groups, who donate by monthly direct debit… we are very lucky to have so much wonderful support!
