Dashing For Cash To Raise Money For Sunshine and Smiles

Dashing For Cash To Raise Money For Sunshine and Smiles

Our Service Manager, Ailith Harley-Roberts will be running the Leeds Abbey Dash this November to raise funds for Sunshine and Smiles. She will be joining 23 runners from Walker Morris who have chosen Sunshine & Smiles as their charity of the year!

The Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash will be taking place on 4th November and you can support Ailith & the Walker Morris team by cheering them on along the way! The runners will be starting in Leeds City Centre and making their way along Kirkstall Road to Kirkstall Abbey before returning to finish outside the Town Hall.

Alternatively you can support Ailith by donating to her Local Giving page. This year Ailith has pledged to run, cycle & swim 2130 miles for Sunshine & Smiles aiming to raise funds to buy equipment such as a full size changing bed for Sunshine & Smiles!

Good luck Ailith from all of us at Sunshine and Smiles! 🙂

Thank You to Phoenix & Wolf Accountants

Thank You to Phoenix & Wolf Accountants

We would like to say a huge thank you to Headingley based accountancy & business services company, Phoenix & Wolf, who have donated the amazing sum of £5000 to help us to develop our Cafe 21 project.

Mike & Tanzi who run Phoenix & Wolf got in touch soon after seeing our pop up Cafe 21 on Look North in March this year. Since then they have been wholeheartedly supporting our work by helping to fund training & equipment such as a gazebo and Cafe 21 banners to help us to develop a strong identity for our pop up events.

The final instalment of their donation to us is to help us move Cafe 21 another step forwards, hopefully very soon!

We are so grateful for their enthusiasm and support for Cafe 21 and look forward to sharing the next stage of our journey!

Ailith and Josh Say Thank You to Ison Harrison

Ailith and Josh Say Thank You to Ison Harrison

ison harrisonSunshine and Smiles has been shortlisted as one of Ison Harrison’s 2018 chosen charities, and will receive one of their 40 prizes.

This year marks the 40th Anniversary of Ison Harrison Solicitors and as part of their celebrations they are supporting 40 local charities by giving away 40 special gifts. The process involves public nominations and we are unbelievably pleased to announce that Sunshine and Smiles has been shortlisted as one of the forty!

Ison Harrison said “we would like to make a donation of £250 to help with the great work you do. We saw on your website that a donation of this value will buy fruit and milk for all your group sessions for a year, so we trust our contribution will help.”

THANK YOU

We would like to thank everyone who nominated Sunshine and Smiles, Ison Harrison for their donation and considering us to be a worthy charity, and every one of you who has supported us over the years – thank you!

Can You Help – Research Project

Can You Help – Research Project

One of our fabulous volunteers, Jenn Evans, is currently studying Physiotherapy at Leeds Beckett University.

She is conducting a research project titled “Understanding Lived Experiences of Parents to Children with Down syndrome in regard to Therapy”. The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of caregivers to children with Down syndrome with regard to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and/or speech and language therapy, and to describe these experiences.

The study is gathering information from families with children aged 2 to 6 years who have accessed physiotherapy, occupational therapy or speech & language therapy. Taking part would involve a 1 to 1.5 hour interview with Jenn which can be done face to face, over the phone, or via Skype.

If you would be able to help Jenn and get involved please contact her for the full participant information sheet & further details via email: J.Evans7785@student.leedsbeckett.ac.uk

Thank You!
