Fundraising Fabulousness!!!

Fundraising Fabulousness!!!

We have had a wonderful couple of months of fundraising and donations …. as always we are incredibly grateful to anyone who supports us by fundraising or donating in whatever way.

These funds are what keep us running and we would not be able to offer the activities and trips, family support and awareness raising sessions that we do without them!

So a huge thank you to ….

Vicky Blackman and her employers Liverpool Victoria who donated £1100.00 – from their community fund which Vicky nominated us for and also match funding for Vicky’s daughter, Ruby’s, Mini run in July.

CARA Chapel Allerton who kindly donated £150.00.

Sue, Debbie and Joanne (friends of Mo Burn from Taylor’s of Harrogate) who put on a Motown night and raised a wonderful £1150.00 … and to Charlie Fisher of Starbeck Conservative Club who hosted the event.

Kevin Harley-Roberts, Mike Babbitt & Max Folkett who biked 130 miles off road to complete the Sandstone Way in two days raising over £750.00

Chapel Allerton Arts Festival 2015

Chapel Allerton Arts Festival 2015

We are very pleased that we will be doing a number of activities at Chapel Allerton Arts festival this year; we hope that they will raise awareness of some of the issues that children and young people with Down syndrome experience but will also be a celebration of our group and some of the things we do.

On Tuesday 1st September from 11am – 12pm we will be doing a Sing and Sign session using our Magic Bag at Chapel Allerton Library.

On Thursday 3rd September we will be doing another Sing and Sign session at the children’s picnic between 1pm – 4pm at Chapel Allerton park.

On Saturday 5th September we will have a Sunshine and Smiles stall all day as part of the main festival day and we will also be joining Roundhay Ukuleles for their performance at 2.40pm to teach a few Makaton signs to the audience and to join them in singing and signing a few of our favourite songs.

We will be doing Walking on Sunshine, You are my Sunshine, A Little Help from my Friends and Bring Me Sunshine – we will send a reminder email and Facebook note out again with the words and signs.

It would be great to see people at any of the activities but particularly if people wanted to come and make up a singing and signing choir with the Ukuleles on the Saturday … like we did at Disability Rocks. Or if anyone wanted to volunteer to help on the stall for an hour or that would be great too!

You can find out more about the festival here:

Please drop us an email if you would like more information or if you would like to help out in any way:

Sunshine and Smiles on Made in Leeds TV

Sunshine and Smiles on Made in Leeds TV

Last week we were delighted that Made in Leeds TV came to film us at our trip to the Donkey Sanctuary to publicise our Book Giveaway but also to talk more generally about what we do at Sunshine and Smiles.

Thank you to all the families on the trip who agreed to be filmed and talk to the presenter … a great job and a lovely article.

A Terrific Third Great Charity Book Giveaway!!

A Terrific Third Great Charity Book Giveaway!!

Thank you to everyone for making our Book Giveaway such a great day … again!

So many people came to support us, there were many delicious cake donations, lots of wonderful books … and lots of care, time and energy given to make the day happen!

The most exciting part of the day was that we actually had people queuing at the door before we opened!!

We raised a wonderful £1052.76 which will go towards running our regular groups and activities for children and young people who have Down syndrome … our goal is to make what we do sustainable in the long term and every fundraising event we do contributes to this … so thank you again to everyone who supported the day in whatever way!

Here are some pictures from the day!
