Since we became a charity many people have done some fantasic fundraising for us… we’d like to give a special mention and huge thanks this month to Michelle Marriott, Richard and Jen Poulton who have had a completely alcohol and chocolate free January … they have asked friends and family to sponsor them to raise funds for Sunshine and Smiles… so far they have raised a fabulous £127.50 with more donations pledged!! This is how they will be looking on the 1st February!!
Obviously one of the things about being a charity is that we rely on donations, fundraising and grants to keep the organisation running, to be able to run the groups and activities and to develop different areas of work such as awareness raising and making links with different health services and professionals.
If you have a fundraising idea or fancy doing a sponsored challenge to raise funds for us please get in touch and we can send you sponsor forms, a t-shirt and send you the link to set up your own fundraising page on our Local Giving site.
Email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org … if you want to find out more or chat about an idea, there is Leeds 10k on 12th July, we hope to have a 3 Peaks Challenge in September this year and IPF have a team doing it in June for us! Or anything else you can think of!!
At this time of many financial cuts we are conscious of ensuring the groups are sustainable now but also for the long term and any help you can give to help us achieve this is hugely appreciated.
You can also donate online, at any of our group sessions or you can set up a monthly direct debit… see our Local Giving page for more details www.localgiving.com/charity/sunshineandsmiles
Thank you for reading and for your ongoing support!
The amazing and fantastic Singing Hands are coming to Leeds to do a World Down Syndrome Day event for Sunshine and Smiles – Leeds Down Syndrome Network. We are very excited and would like as many people as possible to come and celebrate with us.
We will also have music from Roundhay Ukele Band, a raffle and a ‘name the bear’ competition.
The event is on Sunday 22nd March from 11am to 1pm at The Village Hotel in Headingley.
Tickets are £5 each or £20 for a family ticket to include 1 or 2 adults and 3 or more children. All children must be paid for.
The venue is fully accessible with ample parking and a direct entrance from the car park at the back of the hotel. There will be a bar for refreshments and anyone wishing to use the resturant afterwards will recieve a 10% discount.
Online tickets have now sold out but a small number of tickets have been kept in reserve for any regular group members who haven’t been able to book online.
Please contact WDSD2015sunshineandsmiles@virginmedia.com if you would like to enquire about ticket availability.
A £100,000 giveaway has been launched to benefit community groups across Leeds and West Yorkshire.
The Yorkshire Evening Post has teamed up with Comic Relief and Leeds Community Foundation to bring Red Nose Day Community Cash to local people in need.
Grants of £500 to £1,000 are available to small organisations in the region that are doing great work to help local people who are living tough lives.
More than 140 projects in Yorkshire have been boosted by Red Nose Day Community Cash since last year.
Nicola Furbisher, the YEP’s managing editor, said: “It’s great to team up with Comic Relief and Leeds Community Foundation to support worthy groups and organisations who so greatly need funding.
“We’re urging groups across the region to get in touch to make sure that this money helps the communities who need it the most in Leeds and beyond.”
Can you spot the Sunshine and Smilers in the photo … Thanks for going down to represent us Sophie, Emily, George, Frank, Charlie, Aiyana, Thalia, Kath White, Jodie Barrow and Kevin Harley-Roberts!!
We have benefitted from £1000 from the Comic Relief Community Cash fund for the last two years and this has gone towards our Speech and Language sessions so we will be applying again this year as our Speech and Language groups have continued to grow and are very much needed!!
